I am not sure if I am more a fan of Calibre or your journey to end up loving him, which I followed, and I actually shared, just a few years earlier. He has imitators, just in the very large, very chaotic and, to me, insincere (because of the shapeshifting qualities of its producers, who can mimic and adapt to any sound) dnb scene - it is rare to find a dnb lp where there isn't an attempt to do the piano stabs+dubby sound from Calibre.
Nice interview. I always get from Calibre that he takes his artistry as a job, as a duty, that now that he is gifted to do art he shrugs and releases more stuff.
this was by far the best interview ive seen someone respectfully pull out of calibre. You dont dip your toes in the writing process, but swim in the tannic mindset behind the man.
Sidenote: One thing to note that I found listening to his entire discography is that his songs over time become more clearer and the less spontaneous per say; if you listen to the very early shelflifes, i found that a noticeable number of tracks lacked a melody/idea to carry them throughout the song. This is in nowhere any demeaning demeanor to make it seem like a vice but rather an observation.
Im also not sure if its insulting to say i personally attune this to the bottle — since things flow better at a certain point with the repeated application of such — but again its my observation.
Apologies for the wording too ive been reading dickens of late :)
